"I had the pleasure of not only reading Michele's book The Boy Who Knew The Mountains, but meeting her in person. The message in her book is greatly needed worldwide to help people understand what autism is and how it not only affects the person who has it, but how other people are affected by being part of that person's life. As the Nursery Manager at Little Smarties Nursery I have firsthand knowledge that autism in many countries is treated as something taboo and is not discussed. However, at our nursery we have an inclusion program and Special Needs Unit that is available not only for our students, but also to the community. We want to be available to the parents in the community to take advantage of having their child assessed for any special needs while they are in preschool to help them adapt to their future educational journey."

"The Boy who knew the Mountains is a moving book told through the eyes of Moza, who is helped by a little boy, Suhail, shunned from his village for being different. The story exemplifies the challenges children with autism face in social situations and stresses the importance of embracing and learning to respect their differences with kindness. It teaches that patience and understanding are the key to being friends with a person experiencing autism. Michele creates a positive context around autism and carries a message that each of us are all uniquely special with our own gifts to share to the world. This is an equally valuable read for children of all ages to help teach them empathy and understanding. The illustrations by Susanna Billson, capture wonderfully the mood and atmosphere of the old village of Al Hayl where the story is set, bringing it back to life for the readers. I look forward to reading the future book, Suhail’s Abu Dhabi Adventure, by this talented author."

"The book really is delightful....and informative, too. I didn’t know about the islands which are part of Abu Dhabi, nor that the port is on an island. The story and illustrations are interesting but straight forward and uncluttered, again giving an excellent depiction of a completely different culture. And the one indication that Suhail might be different is beautifully handled....he is immediately unquestioningly accepted by the fisherman. Another useful lesson. The glossary is a great idea...for adults as well as for children...something that could well be included in so many books for the young and aged. Please send my congratulations and thanks to Michele." |
Little Camel book review:
"What a delightful book 'Little Camel.' At times when time is little and my kids still want to have a bed time story cause we are keeping to our routines, this is our go to book. Its fun to read together as by now they know the words but also it has some very important morals for children but also for parents in my opinion. The story is about a little camel and its daily journey of what it wants to be today. This is so amazing, children have a vivid fantasy and through play in every day life, camouflage themselves in different characters. But here comes what we as adults often forget, support your child no matter what. Mother camel always has an encouraging reply to what Little Camel wants to be today. Highly recommended."

Heiko the Hippo book review:
“What a delightful book! Beautifully written and illustrated, it makes reading it a joy. It’s easy to follow Heiko as he dances his way through the world of dance. The colour, the lines and rhymes and the word trails will keep children engaged and entertained. Darcy’s favourite was the tango and the Ayyala in which I had to keep returning to those pages! She loves dancing herself so, it was enjoyable for her to read and explore the different types of dancing, even prompting a chuckle with the words “boogie woogie”! I thoroughly recommend this book to all children, especially those who love to dance!” Nicole Hottes (Australia) |
